Beech forest of La Pedrosa in Riaza in Segovia

One of the attractions of autumn in the surroundings of Madrid is to be able to enjoy the beauty and charm of beech trees that can still be seen in the northern sierra of the province.

The problem is that to know the most prominent, such as Montejo Beech, in the Sierra del Rincón, or the Black Tejera Beech, already in the Guadalajara province, you must make prior reservation for the visit, which is carried out with limited spaces.

However, this time we are going to talk about Beech Forest, which you can visit freely, no need for a reservation.

Beech forest of La Pedrosa in Riaza in Segovia

Also known as the Hayedo de Riazathis little beech forest of 87 hectares, it extends along the northern slope of the Ayllón mountain range in the province of Segovia.

How to get to Hayedo Pedrosa in Riaza

Specifically, in the Riaza Valley, behind the aforementioned Black Tejera Beech, in the natural park of the North Sierra of Guadalajara.

To be able to walk among its imposing beech trees, as I did last fall, it is best to approach Riaza, town famous for its beautiful arcaded plaza, and one of the traditional places in this area to eat lamb and piglet.

Since Riaza you must go on the SG-112, a road that passes by Riofrío de Riaza go up to him port of the Quesera, on a route that if you continued it would take you to black towns of Guadalajara.

Riaza Valley in Segovia

It is at the top of the road, almost reaching the port that delimits the provinces of Segovia and Guadalajara, when you can see the beech forest,

This forest extends along the mountainside at a height of between 1,500 and 1,700 meters.

As you go up the road, or if you go down from the top of the port, you will see signs that tell you that you are in the area of the Beech Forest.

If you go a fall weekend, as was the case with me visit of the Hayedo de la Pedrosa, you will not need these indications, because you will find the road with cars parked in the few spaces that are available.

Where to park the car in the Hayedo de Riaza

Do not be surprised if you see the cars aligned on both sides of the same road, which, I warn you, can complicate the circulation of vehicles.

On top of port of the Quesera it is where more space is available for to park the car, and from there you can walk down to the beech area.

When I visited him in the fall, the Beech Forest He was already with fallen leaves, so the forest did not show the classic autumn image of trees full of yellow leaves.

But I will tell you that the capricious forms of the beech trunks, in many cases covered with green moss, and the carpet of yellow and ocher leaves, make up a beautiful and charming scene.

As you can imagine, it is a highly recommended visit for photographers.

I assure you that you will enjoy this excursion, a perfect complement of nature for an escape to the aforementioned Segovian town of Riaza or to the aforementioned route of the black towns of Guadalajara.
