"Treasures of the Cultures of the World" at the Art Canal Exhibition Center in Madrid

In this exhibition a review of the evolution of the cultures of the world, from all continents, is made from a select sample of artistic objects of all kinds from the British Museum in London, completed with objects from Madrid Museum of America.

Thus, starting from a tool of the Stone Age, with more than 1.4 million years old, the visit to the exhibition you will start it with several objects of Ancient Egypt, including a replica of the Rosette Stone, one of the most visited pieces in the British Museum, as well as a coffin and a mummy.

After seeing other objects of African origin, on your visit you will access the Middle East area, where you can see pieces of the culture of Mesopotamia, like the figure of the Divine Guardian, 800 years B.C.

Europe it also has its place in the exhibition of «Treasures of World Cultures» in Madrid, with objects of the most varied, from Greece and Classical Rome, as a sculpture of two dogs, to medieval times, as the pieces of Lewis Chess originally from Norway, from the 12th century.

In the area dedicated to Asia, you can see from a standing Buddha figure, from the second century, or a large Buddha head from Japan, to colorful musical instruments from Java. Or also representations of byzantine art, like the Icon of the Mother of God Smolenskaya, from the 16th century.

From OceaniaObjects that will get your attention are a figure with two heads, or a stone with a sculpted bird man from Easter Island.

The exhibition «Treasures of World Cultures» in Madrid it is completed with various objects from the Americas, both from the north and the south, from the collection of the Madrid Museum of America, and also with curious objects of the modern world.

As you leave the exhibition, in a long hall you can see an interesting schedule which shows you different stages of the history of Humanity, since the Stone Age. In this schedule the images of the most outstanding objects presented in the exhibition have been incorporated.

During your visit you can also watch a documentary with the history and activities of the British Museum. The visit will take you about an hour.

Schedule and ticket price of the exhibition «Treasures of World Cultures»

He Canal Arte Exhibition Center It is located in the Plaza de Castilla, on the right as you arrive on the Paseo de la Castellana from the center of Madrid.

You can visit every day, until May 10, 2010, with a schedule between 10 and 21 hours, and the ticket price It is 6 euros. There is a reduced entry of 3 euros for children under 12 accompanied, over 65 or retired, and students. Admission is free for children under 6, unemployed and disabled.
